[...] Photography in Greece has come a Iong way, and can show results as impressive as any in Europe. As for the inevitable confusion of roles and identities which it is inevitably undergoing, the crucial factor is that many practitioners, attracted by the unique relationship of the photograph to the world, continue to produce exciting visual art based on photographic imagery. Whether they subvert this relationship or build upon it; whether the image is chemical or electronic; whether the resulting work is a framed silver print, a video sequence or a multi-media instaIIation; whether the practitioners choose to caII themselves artists or photographers -all this is beside the point, and to the youngest and most promising artists, the question is Iargely irrelevant.
