Ikaria isn`t one out of the many Aegean islands; it is a unique place, with many allures beyond its thermal springs, famous from the antiquity. All you have to do is go up the winding road above Ayios Kirykos and survey the landscape from up there, to immediately understand that Ikaria is a special island. You will see before you a pretty little village, nestled in greenery. The roofs of the houses are all made of slate, like the ones in Pelion, but even more beautiful. The mountain is covered in wild, almost primitive vegetation and as far as the eye can see before you, is the sea gleaming under a blazing sun that also warms your bones. This is the Ikarian Sea. The sea into which the mythical Icarus fell and drowned when the sun melted his waxwings.
