Fifteen centuries of architectural activity have left behind a large number of ecclesiastical monuments in the area of modern Greece, some of which are amongst the masterpieces of Byzantine church-building. This book represents the first methodical attempt to assemble information that is either dispersed in a variety of readily available treatises and articles on medieval churches in Greece, or is derived from the direct study of hitherto unknown publications. An endeavour is also made to identify the distinctive features of the monuments studied against the background of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine church-building.
