Η παρούσα έκδοση είναι καρπός µιας συνεργασίας µεταξύ δύο ξεχωριστών καλλιτεχνών του νησιού µας: του ποιητή Θεοκλή Κουγιάλη και του εικαστικού Χριστόφορου Σάββα. Πρόκειται για µια συνεργασία που άφησε ανεξίτηλο το στίγµα της στην πολιτιστική ανάπτυξη της Κύπρου στην µετά την ανεξαρτησία εποχή του νησιού κι αυτό, γιατί είναι η πρώτη φορά που µια συνεργασία αυτής της µορφής πραγµατοποιείται στη νεότερη ιστορία των γραµµάτων και των τεχνών του νησιού.
Επιθυµία και των δύο ήταν όπως ποίηση και ζωγραφική διατηρήσουν τη δική τους υπόσταση. Γι’ αυτόν τον λόγο απέφυγαν να δώσουν στο εγχείρηµά τους την παραδοσιακή µορφή βιβλίου, όπου ποίηση και εικονογράφηση της παρουσιάζονται ξεχωριστά σε αντικριστές σελίδες. Και πράγµατι η δουλειά του Χριστόφορου δεν ήταν απλή εικονογράφηση των ποιηµάτων. Η µορφή που τελικά επέλεξαν είχε ως πρότυπο το «Livre d’ Artiste» (Βιβλίο του Καλλιτέχνη).

A dialogue: Poetry & Painting
This publication is the result of a collaboration between two outstanding artists, the poet Theoklis Kouyialis and the painter Christophoros Savva. It was a collaboration that left its mark on the cultural development of Cyprus, in the period after independence. And this is because it was the first time that a collaboration of this kind took place in the modern history of the arts and letters of the country.
Τhey both shared the view that poetry and painting should each keep its autonomy. For this reason they avoided giving their venture the conventional form of a book, where poetry and its illustration appear separately on opposite pages. And indeed Christophoros’ work was not a mere illustration of the poems. The form they finally chose as most appropriate for their collaboration had as a model the Livre d’ Artiste (Artist’s Book).

Μπιενάλε Βενετίας: Με μεταθανάτια έκθεση του Χρ.Σάββα η Κύπρος
Αυτή η χρονιά (2018) σηματοδοτεί μία διπλή επέτειο 50 χρόνων για τον Σάββα, έναν από τους πρωτεργάτες της σύγχρονης κυπριακής τέχνης. Το 1968 ήταν ανάμεσα στους έξι καλλιτέχνες που εκπροσώπησαν την Κύπρο στην πρώτη επίσημη συμμετοχή της ως ανεξάρτητο κράτος στην Μπιενάλε Βενετίας· σηματοδοτεί επίσης την πεντηκοστή επέτειο από τον πρόωρο θάνατό του, λίγο μετά τα εγκαίνια της έκθεσης. H πρόθεση του Υπουργείου Παιδείας και Πολιτισμού να αποτίσει φόρο τιμής σε αυτές τις ιστορικές επετείους συνέπεσε με μία πρόταση συνεργασίας από το Point Centre for Contemporary Art στη Λευκωσία, για τη συνδιοργάνωση μιας έκθεσης ερευνητικού χαρακτήρα, η οποία θα παρουσίαζε το έργο του Σάββα σε ένα ευρύτερο, διεθνές κοινό.

Cyprus in the 58th International Art Exhibition – la Biennale di Venezia (11 May ‐ 24 November 2019)
The Culture Department of the Ministry of Education and Culture announces that the Cyprus Pavilion at the 58th Venice Biennale of Art will present a posthumous exhibition of works by the artist Christoforos Savva (1924 – 1968). The idea of a thorough presentation of Christoforos Savvas’ work at the Venice Biennale emerged through a series of concurrences.
The current year (2018) marks a double 50‐year anniversary for Savva, a pioneer of contemporary Cypriot art; in 1968, he was among the six artists representing Cyprus in its first official participation in the Venice Biennale as an independent state; it also makes the 50th anniversary of his premature death, shortly after the vernissage of the exhibition. The intention of the Ministry of Education and Culture to commemorate these historical anniversaries coincided with a collaboration proposal by Point Centre for Contemporary Art, Nicosia, for the presentation of a survey show that would bring Savva’s work to a broader international audience.
