Περιγραφή

The geographical position of the Isthmia in Ancient Greece, as an idyllic place for Panhellenic meetings, whether for reasons of foreign threats (Themistocles), or for the establishment of a federation of the Greek city- country (Philippo) or again a campaign for the liberation of Ionia (Alexander the Great).  The Isthmian Games were celebrated every second year with Panhellenic participation, as say the writings of the traveler Pausanias and they give credence to its enormous archaeological value.
The digs at the village of Kira Vrisi, that were begun in 1952 by the archaeologist Oscar Broneer, and brought to light the Ancient Isthmia, proved that below the small cottages and the sheep pens of the humble village an important part of Ancient Greek Civilization was hidden.
The strong character of the archaeologist Elizabeth Gebhard, and her team, with their researches and their writings, made the Ancient Isthmia known to the scientific world of America and Europe.
Nonta’s accident bridged the Present with the Past and gave hope to the Future.
