Περιγραφή

Lysistrata, staged in Athens in 411 BC, is Aristophanes` third play, which urges the Greeks to finally end the Peloponnesian war. In those days, only two years after the Athenians` annihilations in Sicily, times were not only difficult but dangerous too. The only ones to benefit from the 20 years` fratricidal war of the Greeks were the Persians, the Greeks` real enemies and the barbaric hordes from the north who were ready to pounce! The few who perceived the danger spoke out for peace. However, the warmongers who were in power would carry on the war under the pretext of «national pride» in order to gain money, fame and glory.
